CHÂTEAU LATOUR

In an appellation and region of storied estates and vineyards, Château Latour stands out as unique. The 'Grand Vin' bears a recognizable aroma and flavour that distinguishes its personality and quality. It is a wine that excels in good years and succeeds in poor ones, and is universally acknowledged as one of the longest lived wines in the world.

Latour is fortuitously situated in some of the greatest terroir in the world. The deep layers of clayey gravel, gravelly sand and marly clay, deposited over millions of years, offer optimal drainage and the right amount of water. Like most of Bordeaux, Latour enjoys a climate moderated by the Atlantic Ocean and its proximity to the Gironde estuary.

However, terroir alone cannot make a 'grand vin'. It takes enormous skill and dedication to quality to produce one of the most revered wines in the world, year after year. Selection is quite rigorous with only the best grapes from the 48-hectare Enclos vineyard going into the Grand Vin. The remainder goes into the excellent second wine, Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac and ordinaire.

Since François Pinault purchased Château Latour in 1993, Latour has achieved even greater heights and has reinforced its reputation as the Médoc's standard for fine claret. In 1995, Pinault hired the young, dynamic Frédéric Engerer to manage the estate. Engerer brought in an equally youthful winemaking and vineyard team, and began a comprehensive review of the vineyards, identifying all the best individual vines and then setting out a new replanting regime based on that knowledge. Engerer oversaw the extensive renovation of the cellar and installation of the most modern equipment, including smaller vats to better track the separate lots for the final assemblage. It is this attention to detail that has helped Latour achieve even higher quality.

VINTAGES is very excited to offer an impressive selection of modern-day Château Latour dating back to 1982, including very rare, large formats. As well, we are offering the esteemed second wine, Les Forts de Latour, in multiple sizes dating back to 1995. All the wines originate directly from the cellars of Château Latour.

Thank you for shopping with VINTAGES.
